[REVIEW] “The Common Path To Uncommon Success” by John Lee Dumas
A few months back I got done reading my friend John Lee Dumas his most recent book, the common path uncommon success “ A roadmap to financial freedom and fulfillment”
Over the past nine years, John has amassed over $20 million as a Podcaster, and his podcast, “Entrepreneurs On Fire” is one of the most sought business podcasts available.
In addition to his top-rated business show entrepreneurs on fire, John has built quite the community aligning himself with large brands and building extremely sustainable and profitable businesses all while living life on his terms.
Here are my biggest takeaways from the book…
I implore you to not just read these takeaways, but actually DO SOMETHING WITH THEM!
- More times than not you’re gonna start off on a path trying several different things until you find out exactly what your passion is and run after it with relentless passion
- Figure out what your big idea is and go all in on it
- Every human is tuned in to the same radio station, WIIFM (what’s in it for me)
- A great exercise to figure out your zone of fire is to draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper on the left-hand side right passion and on the right-hand side right the word expertise. set a timer for five minutes and fill out the sheet on both columns
- Become a personal value
- What is something I wish existed in the world that doesn’t?
- “Your level of success seldom exceeds your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become.” -Jim Rohn
- Find your niche.
- Define your avatar. Write a 500-word bio of your avatar. Use your imagination and have some fun.
- John under to the power of voice and understood the podcasting trifecta of awesome: free, on-demand, and targeted content
- Find a mentor.
- Time block to create and schedule social media content for the following week
- Podcasters: Start a weekly newsletter sharing upcoming episodes as well as episodes that may have dropped that week, key takeaways, and lessons learned from the episodes.
- Tasks will expand to the time allotted.
- DISCIPLINE: Commit to waking in the morning with a plan of action already in place. Commit to creating a plan THE NIGHT BEFORE. JLD calls this “WINNING TOMORROW TODAY”
- Those on the common path to uncommon success go one inch wide and one mile deep.
- We focus on one thing, go deep, and serve our niche better than anyone else is willing or able to do. If you are not serving your niche better than your competition, you do not niche enough.
- Magical words: Productivity. Discipline. Focus.
- The key is to engage with as many people in your audience as possible, one-on-one.
- Ask your audience: “What is your biggest struggle right now?”
- “Go-to Experts” refuse to be distracted by anything other than providing the best solution to a real struggle their audience is experiencing.
- When creating a funnel, you need to ask, “what is the next obvious problem that needs to be solved?”
- On the common path to uncommon success, the only permission you need is from yourself.
- The only person you should compare yourself to is you, yesterday.
- Be impatient with actions, and patient with results.
